About the Creator & the Project
Christine Stoddard is an American-Salvadoran writer, artist, director, and performer. Named one of Brooklyn Magazine's Top 50 Most Fascinating People, she is the founder of Quail Bell Press & Productions, including the namesake Quail Bell Magazine. She is a 2025 graduate of Columbia Journalism School and holds an MFA from The City College of New York.
She contributed to Grinnell College's comics magazine, The Sequence, before transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University. Her "Forget Fairytales" comics first ran in The Commonwealth Times, VCU's campus newspaper. She co-founded VCU's publication Comicality Magazine using a special grant from the Student Media Center. In 2013, she was named one of The Southeast Review's national emerging artists in a feature focusing on "Forget Fairytales." In 2017, she exhibited "Forget Fairytales" comics at The Living Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Her comics have appeared in The Huffington Post, Washington City Paper, Brooklyn Downtown Star, Queens Ledger, Feminist Wednesday, Grok Nation, Weird Sister, and elsewhere. Her comedy play "Forget Fairytales," which was based upon the comics, premiered before a sold-out audience at the Broadway Comedy Club in New York City in 2022.
